Overview
A very small commune in the north of the Var (83), on the edge of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, in the northern part of the Canjuers plateau. A member of the Lacs et Gorges du Verdon community of communes, of the Verdon Regional Nature Park and of the Haute-Provence Geological Nature Reserve.

History of Brenon
The community of Brenon was attached to the viguerie of Castellane by the Count of Provence in 1342. In 1315 the place had 8 hearths. Under the Ancien Régime and up to the 19th century it was a small mountain farming village whose population fell sharply (116 inhabitants in 1793, some twenty by the middle of the 20th century). The commune bore the name 'Brenou' in 1801. The village suffered floods and mudslides in November 1994 and again in 2011. The commune has been administered by the Rouvier family since 1959. The hamlet served as a location for Georges Lautner's film 'Fleur d'oseille' (1968), starring Mireille Darc.
