How listings are ranked

LiveVerdon lists accommodation, restaurants and activity providers. This page describes the order in which their listings appear, what a paid plan changes in that order, and what it does not change.

In the directory sections

Each section (accommodation, restaurants, activities) groups listings by village. Villages with the most listings come first; where the number is equal, they follow alphabetical order. Within each village, listings are ranked by these criteria, in this order:

  1. The paid plan. A Premium listing comes before a Visibility listing, which comes before a Presence listing, which comes before free listings.
  2. The commercial link with the publisher. Among free listings, those of businesses that are clients of LiveVerdon’s publisher for other services (Livada) come before the others.
  3. The source check. A listing marked “Checked against sources” comes before one that is not.
  4. Official stars. For star-rated accommodation, the listing with more stars comes first.

Where listings are equal on all these criteria, they keep the order of our data file.

On village pages

The accommodation preview and the list of addresses at the bottom of the page show only the first listings in each category. A higher-ranked listing may therefore appear there in place of another. The first three criteria are the same as in the directory: paid plan, commercial link with the publisher, source check. The fourth is the rating:

  • The rating. For accommodation, the Google rating weighted by the number of reviews (a rating based on few reviews counts for less) and, where there is no rating, official stars. For restaurants and activities, the Google rating.

On the same pages, the ranking of restaurants by rating follows a different rule: it relies only on Google and Tripadvisor ratings and their number of reviews. Neither a paid plan nor the commercial link with the publisher plays any part in it.

What the labels mean

Ad
Listing with a paid LiveVerdon plan: it is ranked ahead of free listings.
Publisher’s client
This business is a client of LiveVerdon’s publisher for other services (Livada). Its listing is ranked ahead of free listings.

These labels appear on every listing concerned in the lists and on the business’s own page.

On the maps, businesses that are clients of the publisher are marked with a star.

What a paid plan changes

  • The position of the listing in the lists, as described above.
  • The content of the listing: the presentation text supplied by the business, the direct link to its website, its email address and its booking link.
  • A Premium listing also carries the mention “Featured”.

What it does not change

  • The verification status of a listing: it depends only on its check date and the sources cited.
  • The ratings shown: they are those of the platforms named, whatever the plan.
  • The ranking of restaurants by rating, the news and the guides: no plan buys a place in them.
  • The site’s search engine and the maps take no account of the paid plan.
