The numbers to dial, then the nearest services: gendarmerie stations, municipal police, fire and rescue centres, hospitals with an emergency department and registered defibrillators, commune by commune. Each block states its source and the date of the data.
In an emergency, call 15 or 112 first
Do not set off for a hospital, a fire station or a gendarmerie station without calling: 15 (SAMU, the ambulance service) or 112 assesses the situation, sends help and tells you where to go. The addresses on this page are there to help you find your bearings, not to replace the call. At the bottom of the gorge there is almost no mobile coverage: tell someone your route before you leave.
Emergency number for deaf and hard-of-hearing people
For people who are deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind or aphasic (SMS, chat, video). To reach it by SMS, you need an active SIM card and network coverage.
National service: the nearest open pharmacy (€0.35/min).
Mountain rescue: PGHM Jausiers (high-mountain gendarmerie rescue unit, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), 04 92 81 07 60. In an emergency, dial 112 first: it will call out the PGHM if needed.

Gendarmerie stations and municipal police
The French government directory attaches 52 of the 65 communes covered by LiveVerdon to 9 gendarmerie stations (brigades). It publishes no opening hours for these stations: phone before you go and, in an emergency, dial 17 or 112.
Station not recorded here. For 13 communes, our data does not show which station they are attached to: it lies outside the communes we cover. This does not mean there is no gendarmerie: dial 17.
8 municipal police forces appear in the government directory for our communes. Their opening hours, where published, are on the official listing. In an emergency, dial 17 or 112.

Fire and rescue centres
18 fire and rescue centres are listed in our communes by the departmental fire and rescue services of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence (SDIS 04) and the Var (SDIS 83). These services do not publish the addresses, so we do not give them. The Var list is the one SDIS 83 publishes; other centres may exist in our Var communes without appearing on it. To get help, dial 18 or 112.

Nearest hospitals with an emergency department
There is no hospital in the canyon. The hospitals below are those for which the public directory sante.fr lists an emergency department. Access to an emergency department may be regulated or restricted at night: in an emergency, call 15 first, and the SAMU decides which hospital is appropriate and how to get you there.
Centre hospitalier de Castellane (ex hôpital local) (9 chemin de la Recluse, 04120 Castellane, 04 92 83 98 00): the sante.fr listing for this hospital shows no emergency department. Do not go there for an emergency without calling 15. View the listing

Registered defibrillators, commune by commune
Cardiac arrest: call 15 or 112
The operator on 15 or 112 guides you and tells you where the nearest defibrillator is. Do not look for a device in a list before you have called.
117 defibrillators are registered as “in working order” in 39 of the 65 communes covered by LiveVerdon, according to the national Géo’DAE database. This open database only releases devices registered as freely accessible: other devices may exist without appearing in it. Place names and access details are reproduced as the operators entered them, in French. Many indoor devices are in a town hall, a campsite or a shop: access depends on the place being open.
Each dot is a device registered as “in working order” in the database; its position is the one the operator entered.

Frequently asked questions
Which number should I call in an emergency in the Verdon?
112, the European emergency number, free of charge: it directs you to the right service. You can also call 15 directly (SAMU, medical emergency), 18 (fire brigade) or 17 (gendarmerie). 114 is for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind or aphasic (SMS, chat, video). With no mobile coverage at all, none of these numbers can get through: at the bottom of the gorge, tell someone your route before you leave.
Where can I find a defibrillator in the Verdon?
In the event of a cardiac arrest, call 15 or 112 first: the operator tells you where the nearest device is. The national Géo’DAE database lists 117 defibrillators registered as in working order in 39 of the 65 communes we cover (file dated 9 October 2026). It only releases devices registered as freely accessible: a commune missing from the list does not necessarily lack a device.
Is there an emergency department at Castellane hospital?
The sante.fr listing for the Castellane hospital shows no emergency department (collected on 9 October 2026). The hospitals for which sante.fr lists a general emergency department are in Digne-les-Bains, Manosque and Draguignan. In an emergency, call 15 first.
Where is the nearest gendarmerie station?
According to the French government directory, 9 gendarmerie stations are attached to 52 of the 65 communes we cover: their addresses and numbers are in the table on this page. For 13 communes, the station is not recorded in our data. In an emergency, dial 17 or 112 without looking for the station.
