History of Montagnac-Montpezat
The present commune came into being on 1 January 1974 through the associative merger (fusion-association) of two separate communes, Montpezat and Montagnac, the latter absorbing Montpezat, which was by then almost deserted. Montagnac is mentioned as early as 1020 in the form Monteniacus, and Montpezat appears in the charters in 1138. The two places came under the bishops of Riez: Montpezat from 1234 to 1631, Montagnac from 1309 until the Revolution. From 1815 to 1940 Montagnac bore the nickname 'Montagnac-les-Truffes', in reference to its truffle production. The commune has produced olive oil covered by an AOC. Today tourism accounts for part of its activity, with a holiday village, a campsite and a high number of second homes, thanks to the proximity of the Verdon.
