Montagne de Robion (summit)

Climbing the montagne de Robion, above Castellane, is one of the most demanding hikes in the area: a long ascent towards a summit topping out at around 1,660 m, rewarded with a 360° panorama over the Verdon and the Préalpes. One variant takes you past the Saint-Trophime troglodyte chapel, clinging to the rock. Depending on the starting point and the route you choose, the figures vary noticeably — here is what the sources say, without smoothing them over.

The truth about the numbers

This is the point of confusion to be aware of before setting off: there is no single ‘Robion’, but three routes documented according to the starting point and whether or not you pass the chapel. Here are the published figures, exactly as they stand.

We do not ‘average’ these figures: each one corresponds to a genuinely different route. Choose your start and your variant first — the figures follow from that.

Not to be confused with the Tour de Robion

This fact-sheet describes the climb to the summit of Robion. It is a separate hike from the Tour de Robion, which is a loop around the massif and does not necessarily aim for the highest point. Two itineraries, two profiles: do not mix them up when you plan your outing.

What you discover

• The summit of Robion (~1,660 m) — the goal of the climb, with its open 360° view over the Verdon canyon and the line of the Préalpes.

What is still missing

We would rather say it than fill the gaps: the altitude of 1,660 m rests on a single source (voyageavecnous.fr) and is not confirmed by an official source; the elevation gain for the start from the Pont de Soleils is not published; and finally, neither a review rating nor the waymarking is documented to date. These fields will be completed as soon as a reliable source specifies them.
